Digitizing art too big for my scanner

Diving right in, technically this piece is only too long for my scanner, so it required two scans in opposite directions and then some fancy splicing in Gimp. Observe:

Spending only a few hours I was able to smooth out most of the canvas bumps (thrown into relief by the light of the scanner) and I played around with the look of the stars. The original and digitized versions are noticeably different and I like both. In fact I painted this for myself and it is hanging where I can look at it every day, so digitizing this work was mainly for fun and practice. When I feel like it, I'll take some more time to make the girl and her cat a bit more three-dimensional. Until then...
